Mechatronics Research

Mekar CarOur name MEKAR is an abbreviation for both Mechatronics Research and Mechatronic Vehicle in Turkish; respectively Mekatronik Araştırmaları and Mekatronik Araç.

We are a mechatronics research group established as a small core group in a small laboratory in 1997 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University.

Today, we are a much larger, dynamic group of faculty, post-docs and graduate students with two research laboratories. Our research being funded through governmental agencies and automotive companies concentrates on

  • Automotive Control and Mechatronics
    • Active Safety Control Systems
    • Internal Combustion Engine Control
    • Hardware in the Loop Simulation
    • Hybrid Electric Vehicle Modeling and Control
  • Civil Helicopter Control
    • Control Mechanism Design
    • Piloted Simulator Design
    • Stability and Control Analysis
    • Unmanned Model Helicopter Control
  • Automation Systems and Mechatronics
    • Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems
    • Modular Production Systems
    • Automation
    • Applied Motion Control
    • Rapid Controller Prototyping
    • Hardware in the Loop Simulation System Design and Operation

MEKAR

Our research group conducts research in several different areas. If one were to collect all of these activities under a general heading, Mechatronics Research would be the most appropriate.

That is why we have decided to call our activities as Mechatronics Research and gave the abbreviation MEKAR (short for mechatronics research or mechatronic vehicle in Turkish) to our collection of labs and projects.
